Why “none”, when the app clearly stores my records?

Google Play draws a specific line. Under its rules, data is only “collected” when an app transmits it off the device, and only “shared” when it is transferred to a third party.

Sholoana does neither. Your events, expenses, contacts and debts are written to a local database on your phone and stay there. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing is collected or shared, even though the app holds a great deal of information that matters to you.

Data handled only on your device

Play’s guidance is explicit that data processed only on the device, and never sent off it, does not need to be declared as collected. The Privacy Policy lists in full what the app stores locally, so you can see it regardless.

The two ways data can leave your phone

Both require a deliberate action from you, and neither sends anything to us:

  1. You export a backup. Settings → Export backup produces a JSON file and opens Android’s share sheet. Wherever you send it (Drive, email, a messaging app), that destination’s privacy policy takes over. The file is not encrypted.
  2. Android backs up your device. If device backup is switched on in your Android settings, the system may include this app’s data in the backup stored in your own Google Drive. That is your Google account’s copy, not ours. You can disable it in Android Settings.

Permissions, and what each one is for

POST_NOTIFICATIONS
Optional. Requested only when you enable a reminder on a debt. Reminders are scheduled locally by Android, so there is no push server.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below)
Used only to read the single backup file you pick in the system file chooser when restoring.
INTERNET
Declared by the app framework. Your records are never sent over the network by this app.
VIBRATE
Lets a reminder notification vibrate.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
Lets Android re-register your pending reminders after the phone restarts, so a reminder you set is not silently lost.

Ads, purchases and tracking

  • Advertising: none. The app contains no ad SDK.
  • In-app purchases: none. The app is free and fully functional.
  • Tracking or advertising ID: not used. The app does not read your Android advertising ID.
  • Account creation: not possible, because there are no accounts.
