Privacy Policy

• We do not collect any personal data. There is no sign-up, no login and no account.
• There is no server. Everything you enter is saved in a database file on your own device.
• No analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs are built into the app.
• You are in control. Delete any record inside the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything at once.

Sholoana (“the app”, package com.sholoana.app) is developed and published by Abdullah Al Rafi (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at nodesynthesis@gmail.com.

This policy is effective from 29 September 2026 and applies to the Android app distributed through Google Play, and to this website.

None. We operate no servers, no accounts and no backend of any kind. We never receive your name, your contacts, your expenses, your debts, your device identifiers, your location or your usage of the app.

Google Play itself reports aggregate, anonymised statistics to us, for example how many times the app was installed, crash counts and Android versions. That information comes from Google, not from the app, and it does not identify you. It is covered by Google’s Privacy Policy.

The app is a record keeper, so it holds whatever you type into it. All of it is written to a local SQLite database file (sholoana.db) inside the app’s private storage area on your phone:

• Your profile: the name you enter during setup, and optionally a phone number and an email address.
• People you add: the names, and optionally phone numbers and email addresses, of friends, family or flatmates you share costs with.
• Events and expenses: event names, members, expense titles, amounts, dates, how each expense was split, who paid, and any notes you write.
• Event funds: contributions into and refunds out of a shared pool.
• Personal debts: money you lent or borrowed, amounts, dates, due dates, repayments and reminder times.
• Settle-up payments: who paid whom, how much and when.

• Notifications: optional. Only requested the first time you switch on a reminder for a debt. Reminders are scheduled and delivered by your phone itself; nothing is sent through a push server, and no notification content ever leaves the device. The app also re-registers pending reminders after your phone restarts, so a reminder you set is not lost. You can refuse the permission and keep using every other feature.
• Reading a file you choose: only when you tap “Restore from backup”. The system file picker opens and the app receives only the single file you select. It cannot browse your storage on its own.
• Network access: the Android framework the app is built on declares the internet permission. Sholoana does not use it to send or receive your data.

Settings → Export backup writes all of your records into a single JSON file and hands it to Android’s share sheet, so you can save it to Drive, send it by email, or store it wherever you like.

Separately, Android’s own Auto Backup feature is enabled for this app. If you have device backup switched on in your Android settings, your phone may copy the app’s data to your personal Google Drive backup. That copy belongs to your Google account and is governed by Google’s terms. You can turn device backup off in Android Settings, or exclude this app there.

The app contains no advertising networks, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no social logins and no payment processors. It makes no third-party network calls with your data.

The only third party involved is Google Play, which distributes the app and provides us with anonymous install and crash statistics as described above.

Your records stay on your device until you delete them. We hold nothing, so we have nothing to retain or to delete on your behalf. Uninstalling the app removes its database along with it.

Sholoana is a general-audience budgeting tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because we collect no information at all.

Privacy laws such as the GDPR give you the right to access, correct, export and erase your personal data. Because everything lives on your device, you can exercise all of these rights yourself, at any time, without asking us:

• Access and correct: open any record in the app and edit it.
• Export: Settings → Export backup gives you the full data set as JSON.
• Erase: delete individual records, or uninstall the app.

If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the “last updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the Play Store release notes.
